Hayden Update...reason for lack of blogging!
As you know our house has been turned upside down since May 20th!
So here is what has happened trying to put in a nut shell...
Hayden was diagnosed with ARN (Acute retinal necrosis), in part a virus attacked the retina (interior part of the eye at base of brain) and has done allot of damage, has had two injections into the interior of eye to help stop virus.
Hayden spent 6 days in patient at the Cleveland Clinic, I slept in a chair at his side only leaving to get him food.
He had a PICC line in his arm for 3 weeks, giving him antibiotics intravenously.
Home health care helped with this as he received an injection every 8 hours that lasted 1 hour.
Hayden is unusual due to his age, 99.9% of other cases have been reported in elderly people. So the course of treatment has not been a regular one. We have become frequent fliers at the Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic making weekly trips to chart his slow improvement, and to see how much damage has been done. Working in Optometry for the past 15 years doesn't help with this situation, I do thank Dr Heather Demos for her quick diagnosis and send us to the Clinic. We have learned that although much damage had been done this was caught early and could have been much worse, in days he could have been blind.
Hayden will never be 20/20 but each week we hope for improvement of a letter or two.
He continues to take several medications both orally and topical to help with this virus.

I thank everyone who has tested, called or emailed, asked how thing are going and keep him in thoughts, prayers! YOU are wonderful!
I will try to keep updates more frequent...just seems we were all very over whelmed but now we are on track!
Back to work and PICC line out..going to try to enjoy summer!
